WOODFORD COUNTY HISTORY ROOM RESOURCES

History Room Resources

Explore a wealth of historical and genealogical resources dedicated to Woodford County and the surrounding areas. Our Local History Room offers a range of materials, from books and periodicals to microfilm and special collections, all curated to support your research needs.

Reference Collection

Our non-circulating reference collection focuses on nonfiction history and genealogy materials specific to Woodford County and the broader region. These resources, marked with light blue tape, include books, periodicals, and various oversized and undersized materials. They are available for in-room use only. This collection is searchable through our online card catalog.

Circulating Collection

This collection can be checked out for the standard four-week period and features books about Kentucky, by Kentuckians, or covering broader history and genealogy topics. It includes diverse materials such as Kentucky travel guides, cookbooks, and more. These items are marked with pink tape. This collection is searchable through our online card catalog.

Vertical Files

Our vertical files are organized into four categories: surname, place, individual, and subject. These files contain collections of previous research and sources related to the topics, making them an excellent starting point for your research. Please ask a staff member for access.

Microfilm

We offer an extensive collection of Woodford County records and newspapers on microfilm. This includes church records, government documents, and editions of the Bluegrass Clipper and Woodford Sun Newspapers. We are digitizing these records to enhance accessibility—visit our Digital Archive for more information.

Newspapers

We maintain physical copies of the Woodford Sun Newspaper from 2008 to the present, although some editions or years may be absent from our collection. These are available for in-room reading; just ask a staff member for access.

Special Collections

Our Special Collections include yearbooks from Woodford County schools, fragile or unbound materials, unique documents, and copies of funeral records from local funeral homes. These items are preserved for their historical significance and are available for in-room use. Many are discoverable through our online card catalog.
