About the Woodford County History Room

The mission of the Woodford County History Room is to collect, preserve, and provide access to materials that document the history of the people and places of Woodford County and the surrounding area. We welcome in-person researchers seven days a week to explore our collection of documents, books, and periodicals. For those unable to visit, we also offer research assistance by phone and email.

The Woodford County History Room is a recent addition to the library, made possible by a generous donation of research materials and records from the Woodford County Historical Society. Opened in 2022, this dedicated area of the library houses historical documents specific to Woodford County and the surrounding region.

Looking ahead, we aim to make our collection accessible beyond the library’s walls and hours of operation. To achieve this, we’re excited to announce that the digitization of the first batch of reels from our microfilm collection has begun, made possible by a generous grant from the Kentucky Genealogical Society. These digitized records will soon be available on our website.

Additionally, the Brown-Forman Corporation, maker of Woodford Reserve, has donated $25,000 to the Woodford County Library to establish a new "Digitization Station" in the library's Woodford County History Room. This initiative aims to preserve historical documents and make local history accessible to the community. The station will feature state-of-the-art scanning equipment, enabling us to create high-quality digital images of our most valuable records, including our extensive vertical files, which document the people, places, and events of Woodford County.

The Digitization Station will also be available for public use, allowing community members to digitize their family histories and ensure that these precious resources are preserved for future generations.
